RALEIGH, N.C. - The Virginia men's and women's track and field teams concluded their regular season schedule Friday with action at the Wolfpack Last Chance Meet at the Paul H. Derr Track on the campus of NC State. The Cavaliers had 13 athletes in action, looking to improve their marks for NCAA Championship selection.
During the afternoon field events, Edy Ndem (Roanoke, Va.) had a strong performance in the women's long jump, finishing second with 20'7.25" on her final jump. The mark was a new PR for Ndem and ranks seventh in school history.
"I couldn't be happier or more proud of Edy," said head coach Bryan Fetzer. "To put together a series like she did was a great way to end her final regular season meet as a Cavalier. That final jump will put her into the field for NCAA Prelims."
Henry Wynne (Westport, Conn.) concluded the day with a PR of 3:46.48 in the men's 1500m, the third-best freshman time in school history.
Virginia had several other top performances on the track. Jordan Lavender (Nashville, Tenn.) was victorious in the women's 400m, crossing in a time of 53.08. Peyton Chaney (Belleville, Ill.) was second in the women's 100m with a time of 11.78, while Tori McKenzie (Chatham, Va.) ran a season-best 12.45 to finish sixth. Chaney was also second in the women's 200m, with a time of 24.06, while Andrea Wright (Chesapeake, Va.) was fifth in 24.63 and Chimere Ezumah (Gardena, Calif.) was ninth with a season-best 25.06.
"Overall we are excited about the group that will head to NCAA's in two weeks," said Fetzer.
Virginia will return to action later this month with athletes competing at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds. The 48 individuals and 24 relay teams selected for each event at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds will be announced on Thursday, May 22. The meet will run May 29-31 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
