Charlottesville, Va. - Virginia fans are encouraged to wear orange and blue to support "Paint the Town Orange" and College Colors Day on Friday, Aug. 30. The annual "Paint the Town Orange" Pep Rally will be held that night at the Charlottesville Downtown Pavilion at 8:15 p.m. The Virginia football team opens the 2013 season Saturday, Aug. 31 at Scott Stadium against BYU. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
The Cavalier spirit squads will be on the Downtown Mall starting at 6 p.m. distributing promotional items and greeting fans. The Cavalier Marching Band will march from the west end of the Downtown Mall to the pavilion at approximately 7:45 p.m.
"The support in our community for Paint the Town Orange seems to increase each year," said Todd Goodale, Virginia associate athletics director for external affairs. "The band's march along the Downtown Mall and the pep rally in front of thousands of Cavalier fans is a great way to kickoff a new season."
The Virginia athletics department invites area businesses to join its free Cavalier Partners program and help "Paint the Town Orange" leading up to the kickoff.
The athletics department's marketing and promotions office will provide flags, posters, schedule cards, and other materials to help local businesses show their support.
Businesses can arrange to pick-up these items or have them delivered by calling (434) 982-5600 or by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Participating businesses will be included in the Cavalier Partners program and will be included in an article on the athletics department's official website, VirginiaSports.com, and the department's Facebook page. Pictures of decorated businesses will be part of an online photo gallery. Photographs may be submitted by email to email@example.com.
Businesses may also call or email the office and a representative will take a picture for you. The athletics department will encourage football season ticket holders to support the businesses that have pledged their support.
