Denny McCarthy

March 23, 2013

Charlottesville, Va. - This weekend the Virginia men's golf team heads to Awendaw, S.C. for its annual appearance at the Hootie @ Bulls Bay tournament that runs Sunday, March 24 through Tuesday, March 26. The 54-hole tournament is held at the par-72, 7,282-yard Bulls Bay Golf Club. The event is named for country music entertainer Darius Rucker, the former front man for the popular band Hootie and the Blowfish.

This year's field is as strong as any in recent history as 10 of the 15 teams are ranked in Golfstat's top-50 poll. Eleventh-ranked Duke highlights the field along with No. 15 LSU. Defending tournament champion Auburn (No. 21), No. 23 Clemson, No. 26 Texas A&M, No. 28 Wake Forest, No. 32 South Carolina, No. 36 Missouri, No. 48 North Carolina State and No. 50 Augusta State are also ranked. College of Charleston, Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia and Wake Forest round out the field.

Last season Virginia placed second in the tournament for the second time. Denny McCarthy led UVa with a fifth-place finish. McCarthy currently leads the Cavaliers with a 72.33 stroke average.

Joining McCarthy in the Cavaliers' lineup are Mac McLaughlin, Ji Soo Park, David Pastore and Alex Lloyd.

Live scoring of the event will be on Golfstat.com.
