• Emery's Senior CLASS Award Player Card
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Virginia midfielder Rob Emery has been recognized as one of 10 student-athletes who excel both on and off the field that have been tabbed as finalists for the men's lacrosse Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - classroom, character, community and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Emery, a senior from San Francisco, Calif., is a two-time USILA All-American and one of three captains for the 2014 Cavaliers. Emery has 11 goals and four assists for UVa, helping the Cavaliers to an 8-3 record. Among the UVa history books for midfielders, Emery's 70 career goals rank No. 9 and his 92 career points rank No. 11.
Emery is one of three finalists from the ACC. Michael Ehrhardt (Maryland) and Stephen O'Hara (Notre Dame) also made the list. Emery is also the sixth Cavalier all-time to be a finalist for the prestigious award since it was established in 2007. Drew Thompson (2007), Ben Rubeor (2008), Danny Glading (2009), Ken Clausen (2010) and Steele Stanwick (2013) are the other Cavaliers to be named finalists for the Senior CLASS Award.
Finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 20 candidates announced in February. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through May 12. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Lacrosse Championships in Baltimore May 24-26.
