Six Cavaliers Named to the All-ACC Academic Team

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Six members of UVa’s men’s lacrosse team were named to the 2013 All-ACC Academic Men’s Lacrosse Team, announced by ACC Commissioner John Swofford. Junior midfielder Rob Emery and sophomore attackman Owen Van Arsdale head the UVa honorees with their second career nods.  Sophomore defenseman Greg Danseglio, fifth-year senior midfielder Charlie Streep and sophomore midfielders Ryan Tucker and Carl Walrath all earned their first career nods.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.

Danseglio (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) started 10 of UVa’s 15 games on defense, while starting the other five as a long-stick midfielder. He led all UVa defensemen in scoring with five points on two goals and three assists.  Danseglio also picked up 35 ground balls and caused eight turnovers.

Emery (San Francisco, Calif.) was a USILA All-America third team honoree while finishing No. 4 on the team with 22 goals, while also picking up a career-high 36 ground balls. He started all 15 games on the first midfield and also dished out six assists. This is Emery’s first nod on the All-ACC Academic team since the 2011 season.

Streep (New Canaan, Conn.) played the 2013 season as a graduate school student at UVa’s Curry School after graduating from Bucknell in 2012. Streep appeared in all 15 games as a member of the second midfield and scored seven goals and dished out one assist during his lone season on Grounds.


 

 

Tucker (Towson, Md.) stared 12 of UVa’s 15 games on the first midfield. The sophomore scored 15 goals and handed out five assists, while also picking up 24 ground balls and causing six turnovers.

Van Arsdale (Charlottesville, Va.) started 10 of UVa’s 15 games at attack and registered career highs with 11 goals and 17 assists.  He also was named to the All-ACC Academic team in 2012.

Walrath (Glen Mill, Pa.) appeared in nine of UVa’s games, seeing most of his time on the second midfield unit.  He had one assist and picked up six ground balls during the season.
