CHARLOTTESVILLE - Three Virginia tennis players were honored Tuesday as the Atlantic Coast Conference announced the 2012-13 All-ACC Academic Teams. Sophomore Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) and first-year Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) were named to the men's team, while senior Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) was selected to the women's team.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during her academic career.
Frank was honored for the second consecutive year. An All-ACC selection in 2013, he won the final match on the courts in Virginia's 4-3 victory over UCLA in the NCAA Final, giving the Cavaliers their first NCAA Championship. He participated in both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Tournaments, finishing the year ranked No. 29 nationally in singles and No. 18 nationally in doubles.
Styslinger was selected after a strong freshman season that was capped by winning the NCAA Doubles Championship with Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.). The ITA Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year, he finished the season ranked No. 35 nationally in singles and No. 2 nationally in doubles.
Vierra was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the first time in her career. She was selected to the NCAA Doubles Tournament with Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.), but the pair had to withdraw due to Epstein's injury. The duo ended the season ranked No. 25 nationally in doubles. In singles, Vierra posted a 27-12 record, including a 15-8 dual match record.
