The Cavaliers scored seven of their first nine points in the first half at the free throw line. In the second half, Virginia scored 10 of its first 12 points from free throws.

Virginia players made their first 11 free throw attempts to start the second half.

During UVa's 16-2 second half run, freshman guard Jaryn Garner scored seven points. Junior center Jazmin Pitts scored four. Junior guard Ataira Franklin hit a three-pointer.

Maryland started the game outrebounding the Cavaliers 8-1. The Terrapins, who lead the nation in rebounding margin, outrebounded the Cavaliers, 50-29.

The Cavaliers' 19.2 percent first half field goal percentage was the first time since playing California in Hawai'i last year (11/27) that the team shot less than 20 percent in a half (5-32, .156). Virginia came into the game shooting 50.4 percent in road games.

Virginia falls to 22-14 all time in ACC season openers. Maryland leads the all-time series 44-35 and has won the last four meetings between the two teams.

The two teams were whistled for a combined 52 fouls. Maryland had three players foul out of the game (Tianna Hawkins, Alicia DeVaughn, Alyssa Thomas). Virginia had one (Telia McCall).

Franklin led the team in scoring (15 points) for the first time this season. It was her sixth double-digit performance of the season. Franklin also had four steals.

Pitts scored in double digits for the fourth time this season (11 points). Pitts was 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

Sophomore forward Sarah Imovbioh scored 10 points, nine coming in the second half.
