Auburn, Ala. - The 13th-ranked Virginia women's golf team is tied for 14th place after the opening round of the NCAA East Regional Championship taking place at the Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala. Virginia shot 12-over 300 to open the three-day, 54-hole qualifier. The top eight teams in the 24-school field advance to the NCAA Championships.

Top-seed Alabama leads the 24-team field at 11-under 277. The second-ranked Crimson Tide are the reigning NCAA Champions. Fifth-ranked Arkansas is tied with 20th-ranked Tulane for second place at 5-under 283.

Virginia was led by ACC individual champion Brittany Altomare, who shot even par 72 and is tied for 21st place. Portland Rosen is in 33rd place at 1-over 73. Briana Mao, an All-ACC selection, is tied for 54th at 3-over 75. Elizabeth Brightwell is in 103rd place at 80 and Nicole Agnello is 122nd at 85.

Virginia will start its second round Friday afternoon at 12:56 p.m. while paired with North Carolina and Oklahoma State. Live stats of the regional are online at

The NCAA Championships are scheduled for May 21-24 at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
