Athens, Ga. - The 19th-ranked Virginia women's golf team dropped back three spots on the leaderboard following the second round of the Liz Murphey Fall Preview taking place at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The Cavaliers shot 14-over 302 during Saturday's second round for a two-day total of 600. Auburn leads the 18-team field at 580.
Virginia senior Brittany Altomare enters Sunday's final round tied for third place at 1-under 143. She shot 1-over 73 after opening play Friday with a 2-under 70. Altomare, who was sixth at last year's Liz Murphey Classic, trails tournament-leading Marta Sanz of Auburn by three strokes. She is one shot behind Paula Reto of Purdue.
Elizabeth Brightwell leads the rest of the Cavalier players. She recorded the team's best second-round score at even par 72 to move up to 26th place at 4-over 148. Portland Rosen is in 66th place at 154 after shooting 77 Saturday. Alex Hersherber is 70th at 155 and Briana Mao is 89th at 163. Hersherberg shot 80 Saturday while Mao posted a score of 84.
