Charlottesville, Va. - The No. 19 Virginia women's golf team travels to Athens, Ga., this weekend to compete in the Liz Murphey Fall Preview at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The facility will be the host site for the 2013 NCAA Championships. The Fall Preview format features 18 holes of play Friday through Sunday.

The field for the Fall Preview features 10 teams ranked in Golfstat's top-25 poll and features No. 2 Duke, No. 4 Purdue, No. 8 USC, No. 10 Vanderbilt, No. 14 Georgia, No. 12 Auburn, No. 20 Oklahoma, No. 21 Alabama, No. 23 Tennessee, California, Denver, LSU, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Tulane and UCLA.

The Cavaliers will tee off starting at 8:50 a.m. Friday while paired with UCLA and Denver. Virginia's lineup features Brittany Altomare, Elizabeth Brightwell, Portland Rosen, Briana Mao and Alex Hershberger.

Last spring Virginia finished fourth in the 18-team field at the Murphey. Altomare led the Cavaliers with a sixth-place performance.

The Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic is one of the oldest continuous sporting events in all of women's intercollegiate athletics and the list of golfers who have competed in the event reads like a "Who's Who" of women's golf, including LPGA Hall of Famers Beth Daniel, Betsy King and Julie Inkster.

The tournament began humbly in 1973 as the Georgia Invitational before becoming the Women's Southern Intercollegiate Championships from 1977-94. In 1995, the tournament was renamed in honor of Liz Murphey, UGA's Hall of Fame golf coach and long-time Senior Woman Administrator.

Georgia has enjoyed tremendous team success on its home course over the past four decades, winning 13 team titles and has producing 11 medalists.

Last spring, Jennifer Kirby paced Alabama en route to individual and team tournament single-round records of 66 and 278, respectively, in the opening round. The Crimson Tide went on to also break the team 54-hole mark finishing at 10-under.
