CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Three members of the Virginia women’s soccer team were recognized for their athletic achievements on Tuesday (Nov. 28) when they were named to All-Region teams by the United Soccer Coaches with the release of the annual teams by the organization.

Senior defender Megan Reid (Orinda, Calif.) was named a second-team All-Region selection, while senior forward Veronica Latsko (Venetia, Pa.) and freshman forward Taryn Torres (Frisco, Texas) were named third-team All-Region selections.

The trio helped lead the Cavaliers to a 13-6-4 record and the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. It marked the 13th consecutive Sweet 16 for Virginia, who fell on the road in a 2-1 battle with No. 4 UCLA on a last-minute goal.

Reid helped anchor a Cavalier defense that posted 10 shutouts on the season and allowed more than one goal in only four games this season. The senior defender hit the game-winning goal at No. 2 West Virginia and added two assists on game-winning goals against Miami and Louisville. She was named an All-ACC second-team selection. She was also named a CoSIDA Academic All-Region first-team selection.

Latsko led Virginia in points this season with 20, tying for the team lead with eight goals and adding four assists. Five of her eight goals were game-winning goals, including the game-winners over Pittsburgh, Louisville and Syracuse in the regular season. She also hit the game-winning goal in both Virginia wins in the NCAA Tournament against Saint Francis and No. 11 Pepperdine. Latsko was named an All-ACC first team selection. She was also the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week after tying the single-game record for points with eight at Pittsburgh (3 goals, 2 assists).

Torres matched the goal production of Latsko, turning in eight goals in her freshman campaign. She was named an All-ACC third team selection and an ACC All-Freshman team selection by the league’s coaches. Torres hit two game-winning goals this season, striking against Liberty and Miami. She also scored in the Cavaliers’ ACC quarterfinal match against No. 21 Wake Forest to help Virginia advance to the ACC Tournament semifinals.
