CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The The Virginia softball team travels to Chapel Hill, N.C., this weekend (April 6-7) for a three-game series against Atlantic Coast Conference rival No. 25 North Carolina. Saturday’s doubleheader and Sunday’s single game are slated to start at 1 p.m.

All three games will be broadcast live on ESPN3.com. Live statistics will be available and linked through VirginiaSports.com.

Last time out, the Cavaliers swept George Mason, 8-0 and 15-3, Wednesday afternoon (April 3) in Fairfax, Va. In the first game, senior pitcher Melanie Mitchell threw a shutout and set the program record for all-time wins with 75. In the second game, three Cavaliers (senior Taylor Williams, junior Marcy Bowdren and sophomore Heidi Velk) each scored three runs, while Lauren Didlake hit the second home run of her career.

Mitchell has been setting UVa career records all season long. Against Boston College on April 30, Mitchell became the first Cavalier and seventh ACC pitcher to record 1,000 career strikeouts. In the same game, Mitchell earned her 74th career win, tying her with Lisa Palmer (1986-89) for the most in UVa history and setting up for her record-breaking win April 3 against GMU.

Mitchell now holds the Virginia career records in wins (75), strikeouts (1,012), complete games (107), innings pitched (869.0), starts (133) and appearances (149).

Bowdren is hitting a team-leading .350 after hitting .278 through February. She had a 12-game hitting streak in March that ranks as the fourth-longest in school history.

North Carolina comes into the weekend with a 25-13 record (6-3 ACC). Haleigh Dickey (.349, 7 HR) and Constance Orr (.343, 9 HR) lead the Tar Heel batters, while Lori Spingola is 15-10 with a 2.70 ERA in the circle.

The Cavaliers host Delaware State Wednesday (April 10) in a doubleheader at The Park in Charlottesville. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
